Review:
The workmanship and engineering that was put forth into the
Regal Engineering rotary vise line is unbelievable. First impression out
of the box was WOW! The craftsmanship was impeccable with a visual
appeasing design. Solid
components are used throughout the product as one can tell there was
much thought put into the overall design and concept of this vise. The
self adjusting clamp is simply unbelievable! I was so excited about the
concept.......and to prove it out on my own bench was such a gratifying
experience. The holding power is extraordinary as stated on their
website. Not
one hook has slipped in over 15 dozen flies tied in the past 45 days.. I
never needed to adjust the pressure on the hook one time! You got to
believe me when I say they have a customer for life…. I fully support
this product to the fullest and I would have no problem suggesting it to
everyone……. This vise owns up to its name…. “The Bulldog of Vises”

Review:
I found
the Regal Engineering RCR-4 vice to be very well constructed. I’ve tied
flies for several years now and in the process have gone through several
different types of “cam” lock vises. They didn’t seem to last very long
for various reasons, most of which was construction quality. One cannot
truly appreciate the tying results of a high-end, well built vice until
you’ve tried one. The adjustable clamp “stem” permitted me to position
the vice exactly at the height I wanted. The unit clamp down base
tightens securely to my fly tying bench without worry of becoming loose
as I tie fly after fly. The spring loaded jaws automatically clamped
down to the proper holding pressure no matter what size hook I inserted
between them. This included sizes that were smaller and larger than
what it was intended. This feature is extremely useful as I
have
had several lesser built model’s jaws wear out from improper applied
clamping tension. I liked the slotted hook groove on the clamping
surfaces. There was no question when a hook was inserted properly. And
when the hook and bend were aligned with this groove, they were staying
put! The rotary portion of the vice makes quick work of tying all type
of dubbed and chenille based flies. Chenille bodied woolly buggers were
tied with minimal effort and great speed. This feature alone
accelerates the process of refilling the fly box so that you’ll get on
the water quicker. The best value of all in my opinion!
I would suggest this vice to anyone considering a model they want to be
their last purchase.

Review:
After
tying all sorts and sizes of trout flies for many years with an
inexpensive vise that constantly needed to be tightened, adjusted and
repaired, I have had an opportunity to tie several dozen flies on a
Regal Big Game Vise. The first
feature I found was the gripped handle that opened the jaws with ease. I
was very pleased with the holding power of the jaws which also include
the machined grooves to hold the hooks. The holding power of the jaws
was awesome. At no time did any hook slip in the jaws and I was now able
to apply pressure to the thread as I never had before. This made for
some very even and tight wraps on my flies.
The second feature I enjoyed was the ability to rotate the
head of the vise, which allowed me to tie material in stages on the fly with full
view of the outcome before hand. I am now able to handle my size 20
midges for Brook Trout and my size 4 wooly-buggers for the Great Lakes
Steelhead. I have begun to experiment with some large bass flies in the 1/0 to 2/0 hook sizes to chase our
monster
Lake Erie river run Smallmouth. This vise has made my tying experience
much easier and more enjoyable. It is great to have a vise that can
handle such a range of sizes without adjusting or changing jaws.
If you get an opportunity to use one of these Regal vises, I believe you
will be quite satisfied with it’s versatility and I for one, will
certainly be praising it during the fly tying get-togethers I host and
attend.
