Raven Invisible Fluorocarbon Leader Line

RAVEN Invisible is made of 100% fluorocarbon material.  The 30m (33yd) spool is available in four strengths.

Invisible - Has a refractive index (the degree to which light bends as it passes through a substance) that is nearly identical to the refractive index of water, making it virtually invisible when immersed in water.

Hydrophobic - Does not absorb water, so it won't weaken or increase in stretch when wet, unlike nylon fishing line.

High Density - makes it sink faster than nylon lines, allowing the bait to run more naturally along the bottom.

Low Stretch - less stretch than nylon, particularly when wet, allowing for crisper hook sets.

Strong and Durable - superior abrasion resistance, tensile and knot strength.

I found the 4.5# spool of fluorocarbon leader material to be stored on a typical tippet type spool and packaging.

The font choice (large) and color scheme (contrasting) make locating the correct line weight and spool out of the many attached to my fishing vest rather convenient.  The large print on a blue background was also easy to read even in low light conditions.

I found the performance to be "par" with some other brands that I've used in the past, some of which require a much more substantial financial investment. I've included the performance and functionality review as one in this case.  The fluorocarbon material sank like one would expect and when fishing in gin clear water, the steelhead that I came across didn't exhibit "line shy" behavior which is always a plus!

The line was given a "torture" test to demonstrate how it would hold up given conditions on more of the extreme end.  All connections were made via a basic overhand knot.  This would include the swivel to tippet, tippet to lead fly, and lead fly to trailer fly.  (note:  using this knot is recipe for breaks, so I wasn't expecting much durability at the connections.)

After a few fish under the 6 pound class, the line was still holding knots well and I hadn't experienced a break.  This was fairly amazing to me.  At this point, using foreceps, I applied some repetitive tugs to the connections to see what it would take to break the line at the knot.  As I suspected, breakage occurred and I was forced to retie.  Of course, this is not an ideal scenario, but does a decent job of spelling out the durability.

After retying all connections with double clinch knots that were lubricated with water (spit), I found the line to hold up well with another half dozen fish.  In my mind, I liked what I was experiencing.  Many times, an effort has to be made to retie after a couple hard fighters because of reduced strength, stretching, and/or line twisting as a result of the battle rolls and jumps.  It this situation is indicative of what you should expect with all the Raven tippet material, I think they've got a winner on their hands!

As noted above, I found the quality of the line to surpass what I've experienced with other manufactorers and to do a great job of surviving (for a limited time) an atypical torture test.

If the rest of the spool performs at the same level that it has thus far, I'd have no reservations with recommending this line for others to consider.  I found it a top performer.
