Manufacturer Description

The new Lamson Litespeed Hard Alox™ is a true large arbor reel with the same fully-sealed drag system that is used in the Waterworks ULA. Like the ULA, the Litespeed Alox is machined in the U.S. from barstock aluminum. By utilizing a more traditional structural design and foregoing the use of titanium we are able to offer a very fine, high performance large arbor reel at a value you would expect from Lamson. Lighter without sacrificing strength, the new Lightspeed Hard Alox will come in a close second to a corresponding Force reel in terms of retrieve rate and weight, and each shares our patented maintenance-free super smooth conical drag.

Great Lakes Steelhead on Review Reel - by Sean Swatsky

My very first impression was actually on the company itself. Our request was promptly answered with a phone call directly by the manufacturer with one question…. “where do we ship it?”  After a quick phone conversation and a couple days later, the reel was at our doorstep.

Out of the box the first thing I noticed was the nice snug-fitting neoprene protective pouch and upon removing the reel from the box one can’t help but notice how light the reel is. The inner arbor is huge and the width is a bit wider than most reels of this magnitude, however this will allow for more line capacity with a true large arbor reel.

The overall design is really nice, no bling, as the reel is a gun-smoke brushed grey color in which is appealing to me. The huge, highly ported, inner arbor allows for fast line pickup…..  when fighting steelhead it is a important aspect to look at when in search of a new reel. The sealed bearing system is a great benefit, especially under the conditions the reel is going to face with… Great Lakes Winter Steelheading! The drag has performed without a single hitch in rain, sleet, and snowy conditions….

I’ve been fishing this reel for a few months and it has performed flawlessly under extreme conditions. (extreme cold, wet, ice, and snow). I even dunked the reel into the river in a test to see how it held up in the freezing cold. To my pleasant surprise the reel didn’t lock up on me. Pretty happy about that on a 20 degree morning I must say.

This product has functioned flawlessly, the HUGE arbor allows for a ton of line pick-up per revolution which is really important for Great Lakes Steelhead! It is also extremely light weight which is nice on the “day-long” adventures.

This test reel has been dunked, dropped, and laid on the rocks and there are no marks to show.

There is no question that this is one of the top quality reels available on the market today. They defiantly put their heart into this reel as it was flawless....  and the support i received during my phone conversation was top notch.

This reel is now one of my favorite reels, matter of fact, it has not come off the rod since I got it if that tells you anything…….
