Manufacturer's Overview

Moisture that becomes trapped inside fly boxes can be damaging to flies. Replacing wet flies or fishing in wet or humid conditions can cause hooks to rust and fly tying materials to weaken. The new Dry-Tech MRT fly box uses Moisture Reduction Technology (MRT) to eliminate the harmful effects of humidity inside a fly box. Moisture from wet flies that generally accumulates inside is now soaked up continuously by unique absorbent crystals. Wet flies placed back in the box will dry out completely as the moisture from them is drawn out of the box and away from other flies as well. These crystals also maintain a constant dry humidity level of only 10-15% and protect flies from dampness at all times. This reduces the deterioration of hooks, thread, & fly-tying materials and extends their durability, lifespan, and the investment in your flies. A Humidity Indicator Test Strip is included with each box to demonstrate the effects of the MRT Design.

Comments: Dry Tech MRT Fly Box Review

Construction:  Rugged, waterproof, almost bulletproof, composite “pistol case” type build, “o” ring sealed clam shell design, heavy duty latches, piano hinged, lanyard loop, locking capability (add  your own padlock).

The box tested is attractive and large as we opt for the "Large" sized box for our review. They also offer a smaller box which would be great for everyday "on-stream" scenarios. The large box is designed more toward guides, saltwater flies, boating, and large streamers as it is quite large and a bit heavy. Long flies are positioned parallel to cuts in interior foam, or use the box with smaller flies and put them in perpendicular. We found the interior compartment had plenty of room even with the two areas made for the desiccant housed in the interior of the lid. Removal of the desiccant storage boxes was straight forward and easy using a quarter to pry them out of the foam cut outs. The process of recharging the MRT desiccant beads using the microwave was simple enough.

Considering its patent pending Dry-Tech MRT (moisture reduction technology) fly box architecture, cost to construction quality & value, overall size, and the fact that it’ll save your most coveted flies from being destroyed by corrosion, we think Angling Designs Inc. has a real winner with this fly box.

Supplied with the box is a humidity test kit with instructions so you can see the results with your own eyes. The performed test physically showed us the reduction in humidity which aids in extending the life of your precious flies. The box actually removes the moisture and dries your flies for you... .

We've talked with Steve Schwartz at Angling Designs and found him to be very knowledgeable about the product and testing procedures. They were more than willing to get us a box for review and we could tell they were very excited about the product. Now we see why, this box is ROCK SOLID!! We look forward to seeing more future products from this company.

Product Drawbacks:

The only drawback found (and we use the word "drawback" loosely) is the price, but for the concept/quality of the box it can easily be overlooked by the serious fly fisherman/guide. The cost of the box will easily pay for itself in no time at all by preventing corroded hooks on your most precious flies.
