Fly Fishing Guide - Northeastern Ohio Tributaries (Great Lakes Steelhead)  & Alaska West Guide

Guide Bio for Matthew Hynes:

"I grew up in Northeast Ohio fishing as soon as I was able to hold a pole.  Attended OSU, but decided the corporate world was not for me.  I took a 10 month vacation, then got recruited into retail as a department manager at Newman Outfitters in Solon.  The store went out of business, and I got thrown into the fire!  I've been guiding full-time ever since.  In the Fall I guide for steelhead on Lake Erie tribs at Chagrin River Outfitters.  Winter I tie 200+ dozen flies for Alaska West ( I have patterns being commercially tied by Solitude Fly Co).  Spring it's back to steelhead!  And from the end on May through the end of September I am a senior guide for Alaska West on the Kanentok and Arolik Rivers." Visit them at www.alaskawest.com

For a guided steelhead trip, the stats are as follows:

All trips are 8 hours!

  • Provided lunch (sandwiches, chips, cookies, drinks, hot soup) and appetizers (usually smoked salmon or venison sausage, cheese, crackers, and fruit)

  • Included in the trip is also FREE wader rental, all flies, tippet, leaders, etc.  Rod rental for available.

  • We will not go to a crowded spot and make the same cast all day.  I guide trips as if I was taking out friends.  I spent 228 days on the water last year fishing and guiding, and this is my full-time job.

  •  These rivers are great for swinging flies and Spey casting!  My skills were honed by the anglers who developed the techniques everyone uses today. I guide with these awesome fisherman in Alaska, and their names speak for themselves: George Cook, Ed Ward, Dec Hogan, and Mike Mercer.

Dates are filling up.  Send me an email to book a trip! Beginners are more than welcome!
